1970s Colonial-Style Home Gets a Fresh Appearance

The start of this tale may have a familiar ring: Throughout the pandemic, a young couple traded compact quarters in the city for a home in the suburban areas and set out to make it their own. In this case, the couple was from Brooklyn, New York City, the burbs were Colts Neck, New Jersey, and your home was a circa-1970s Colonial that looked stuck in the past– and not in a great way. So the couple browsed on Houzz for an interior designer and discovered Nicole Forina, whose workplace was simply 10 minutes away.

Forina and the property owners clicked. And while the lead-up to the restoration may be typical, the result was anything however. The once-outdated home is now filled inside and out with boldly colored and patterned natural stone, emotional household pieces, a high-low mix of vintage and modern home furnishings, and unforeseen information– consisting of an antiqued-mirror variety hood and fanciful green wallpaper– around every corner.
