‘What if the Jury Granted $1B?’: Ga. Appellate Court Weighs Optimum for Nominal Damages

Exists a ceiling for a jury award of small damages? The Georgia Court of Appeals is set to weigh in after Walmart, represented by lawyers from Florida-based company GrayRobinson, appealed a $1 million accident decision on Tuesday, arguing the jury granted absolutely nothing for discomfort, suffering or medical losses and $1 million is not a “insignificant quantity”– even if the accused is Walmart.

“[The verdict] merely can not be a million dollars on its face. It shows an intrinsic predisposition, bias or an award based upon compassion,” Jack Reiter, arguing on behalf of the defendant-appellant stated.
